Fleetwood Mac are a distant second with 72,984 uploaded files, whilst Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin and, weirdly, Cliff Richard round out the Top 5. The Beatles are well, well ahead of the rest of the pack, with 186,687 files appearing online and an average of 1000 downloads per file. Sites monitored by MUSO’s dashboard system, which scans websites for illegally uploaded content, include cyberlocker sites, illegal streaming services and torrents, although P2P sites like The Pirate Bay fall outside of their remit. It’s not an enormous surprise, but The Fab Four are the world’s biggest targets for online pirates.Īs Music Week report, anti-piracy monitoring company MUSO has looked at data from websites which have been compliant with takedown requests in recent years.
